Kazakhstan to impose tax on metal extraction from 2009

 

A new Tax Code will set extraction tax on metals at the following rates: 8% for copper, 9% for zinc, 15% for uranium, 8.5% for lead, 0.3% for aluminium, 6% for tin and nickel and 5% for gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

 

It will also set this tax at 17% for chromium ore, 3% for iron and iron-manganese ore, 3.5% for iron ore concentrate.

 

For other metals and rare metals the rate does not exceed 7.7%.

 

The rate of the tax is 0% on coal supplied domestically and 2.51% for coal exported.
